Needle Felting For Children: Painting With Wool, Wednesday 11/13, 4:30-5:30pm
Let your child’s creativity shine with this needle felting class for children. We will be “painting with wool” through a process called needle felting. We will work on the background together, and then children will add their own details to make their “painting” unique. To protect our fingers, we will wear protective finger gloves and work slowly. No prior experience is needed, and all skill levels are welcome. We will work through each step together to make it fun and easy. This is a great class for both beginners and experienced artists.
In this class you will learn how needle felting works, as well as the best materials to use. We will go over needle felting procedures and safety before we start working, and all materials are provided. At the end of the class, you will have a beautiful framed wool painting to display!
This class is for responsible children 9 and up. If you feel that your child requires additional help you are welcome to stay and help them during the class. Needle felting needles are sharp, and although we use safety gear and work carefully and slowly, accidents can happen. Younger children are welcome with a guardian’s direct supervision.
Meet the teacher:
My name is Sarah, and I am a mother of two, an avid runner, and a self confessed serial crafter. For years I worked as an archaeologist, but due to an autoimmune disease I could no longer successfully make that my career. One day on a whim I decided to try a needle felting kit, and I instantly fell in love with this art form. When I finished my first kit I started designing my own little wildlife friends and just found myself getting more and more addicted to making them.
I feel like every day I learn something new about the needle felting process, and that feeling never ends! I am excited to share my love of felting and teach others how to make their own creations. I have started a line of DIY kits with video tutorials, and I am looking forward to teaching more in person classes! Lately I have been making a lot of birds, but I love creating all animals from the whimsical to realistic. You can see some of my creations at woolywildlife.com and awoolywildlife.etsy.com, and you can usually find me at Third Thursday and other sales around town.
