Artist Statement:
As a resident of Summerville’s historic district, I observe and record the changes I see daily. OUR TOWN is experiencing rapid growth, and I’d like to create a visual inventory of Summerville while documenting how our community is grappling with the challenges that are not unique to Summerville. Across the country, what were once “small towns” weigh the pros and cons of progress. I admire the structures, both large and architecturally detailed, and the humble cottages that were carefully built long ago in Summerville. Carnes Crossroads Artist Cooperative
Location: Studio 4, upstairs
The Carnes Crossroads Artist Cooperative was founded in February 2017 by a group of Carnes Crossroads residents who shared a passion for making handcrafted products. Now in its fifth year, the CCAC has grown into a community organization that has developed a strong reputation in the Summerville, Goose Creek and North Charleston areas. The goals of the Carnes Crossroads Artist Cooperative are to connect local artists with one another, provide an opportunity for the greater community to meet and interact with local artists, and to foster dynamic community support for handcrafted items created by Lowcountry Artisans. The CCAC is proud to be a part of the Public Works Art Center. The Artist Cooperative website features an Online Store showcasing handcrafted items from local Summerville and Goose Creek artists.
