Artist Statement:
As a resident of Summerville’s historic district, I observe and record the changes I see daily. OUR TOWN is experiencing rapid growth, and I’d like to create a visual inventory of Summerville while documenting how our community is grappling with the challenges that are not unique to Summerville. Across the country, what were once “small towns” weigh the pros and cons of progress. I admire the structures, both large and architecturally detailed, and the humble cottages that were carefully built long ago in Summerville. Susan Lowcavage
Location: Studio 5, Upstairs
Sue has enjoyed drawing and painting since she was very young. After earning her BA in Fine Arts Education, she taught art in the public schools in Pennsylvania. She had her own studio and gallery there and for 20 years participated in juried fine art shows along the east coast. In 2009, Ms. Lowcavage moved to South Carolina and was drawn to the natural beauty of the Lowcountry; the flowers, palms, birds, and beaches. Sue has original watercolors in Off the Wall gallery and frame shop in Summerville. She also has her work on display in her studio at Public Works Art Center.
