Frequently Asked Questions
I'm interested in exhibiting my work
Public Works Art Center welcomes artists and curators to submit proposals during our Request For Proposals process, in which a committee reviews submissions annually. While proposals for our 2027-2028 gallery season have closed, we typically open up proposals in the spring. Watch out for our announcement in our newsletter to be the first know (sign up here!)
We also have an annual community exhibition called SPARK, where everyone has the opportunity to submit one piece, and ALL pieces are accepted! Click here to learn more!

Are you accepting new volunteers?

Why is it called Public Works Art Center?
We were inspired by the Commissioners of Public Works building in Downtown Summerville, which was the original post office for our town that we now occupy. In our eyes, there is no better use for this space than a community-focused cultural center that welcomes people of all ages to create, experience, and learn about art. We love the theme of working for and with the public to beautify and enrich the town. We once dreamed of a place where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves in creative and artistic ways, and so diverse in its cultural offerings that you could visit one day wearing tie dye and another day wearing a bow tie. Hence the name, “Public Works.”
