Public Works Art Center (PWAC) is a nonprofit dedicated to creating and fostering an arts community for all. Through free galleries, arts education, events, and creative spaces, we bring people together through art. As our campus expands into a second building, we’re looking for a friendly, organized, and enthusiastic person to help us grow!

Position Overview

The Volunteer & Events Coordinator will help build and manage PWAC’s volunteer program while serving as the primary contact for event rentals and bookings. This person will play a key role in creating a welcoming experience for volunteers, visitors, and event organizers and guests across our growing campus.

The position is based at one of our front desk and is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, staying organized, and being part of a creative, community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and communicate with volunteers, primarily front desk greeters across both buildings.

  • Develop or improve existing volunteer procedures, orientation materials, and training resources.

  • Create opportunities for volunteer appreciation, recognition, and engagement.

  • Maintain volunteer schedules, records, and service hours.

  • Build relationships with volunteers and identify ways to strengthen and grow the program.

Event Coordination

  • Serve as the primary contact for individuals and organizations interested in renting PWAC event spaces.

  • Respond to inquiries, coordinate tours, manage bookings, and maintain event calendars.

  • Communicate with renters and staff to coordinate event details and logistics.

  • Maintain organized booking records and support a positive experience for event guests.

Front Desk & General Support

  • Welcome visitors and share information about PWAC’s exhibitions, classes, and events.

  • Support daily operations, administrative needs, and occasional special events.

  • Assist with other duties as needed.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • A friendly, professional, and welcoming personality.

  • The ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently.

  • Comfort using email, shared calendars, and digital tools.

  • Enthusiasm for the arts, community engagement, and PWAC’s mission.

Big bonuses: Experience with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar), familiarity with Public Works Art Center, or previous volunteer coordination, event planning, or customer service experience.

Formal experience in a similar role is not required. We value initiative, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Schedule & Compensation

  • 15 hours per week at $15/hour to start.

  • Two Saturdays per month (10 AM–5 PM) required.

  • Flexible scheduling for remaining hours.

  • Occasional evening or additional weekend hours for special events.

  • Opportunities for increased hours, compensation, and responsibilities as PWAC grows.
