Beginner Needle Felting for Kids, Thursday 7/2, 5:30-6:30pm
This class is intended for responsible children ages 7 and up. Children under 9 years old will need an adult to stay and help.
Discover the magic of needle felting in this fun and hands-on class designed especially for creative kids! Students will create and decorate their very own hanging wool ornament—perfect to display on a window, wall, backpack, or fridge. Using soft wool, special felting needles, protective finger gloves, and cookie cutter shapes, children will learn how loose fibers transform into adorable works of art. Students can choose from a variety of shapes including cats, dogs, bears, stars, hearts, and more, then personalize their creations with colorful details and decorations.
This class is perfect for beginners as well as children who already love crafting and fiber arts. We will work together step-by-step in a relaxed and encouraging environment, making the process easy, creative, and fun for all skill levels. Along the way, students will learn the basics of needle felting, including how the technique works, safe felting practices, and the best materials to use. All supplies are included, and each child will leave with a finished handmade ornament they can proudly take home and display.
This class is intended for responsible children ages 7 and up. Children under 9 years old will need an adult to stay and help. Parents or guardians are welcome to stay and assist if their child may need extra support during the activity, regardless of their age. Needle felting needles are very sharp, and while safety gear and careful instruction are always provided, small accidents can occasionally happen. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where young artists can explore creativity while learning a unique fiber art technique.
Meet the Teacher: Sarah Mitchell
My name is Sarah Mitchell, and I create realistic sculptures of birds and animals through the process of needle felting. Using wool and a small barbed needle, I carefully layer and sculpt fibers to create lifelike forms rich with texture and movement. I am drawn to the unique qualities of fiber, which allow each piece to feel soft, expressive, and alive.
My work is deeply inspired by the natural world around me, particularly the birds and mammals native to South Carolina. I spend time observing the movement and behavior of animals so I can capture a sense of life and personality in each sculpture. Through my work, I hope to encourage a closer connection to wildlife and give viewers the feeling that these animals could step away from their mounts at any moment.
