Spotlight
Jirah Perkins
Location: Studio 6, Downstairs
Jirah Perkins is a visual artist from Charleston, South Carolina, and founder of UJORII Fine Art. "Ujorii" (oo-yor-ee) is a blend of both "Ujima" and "Satori", meaning collective work, responsibility and understanding. Jirah believes that these three acts are pertinent in creating a communal entity. Her work is reflective of the emotions of humanity. She experiments through different mediums while embracing nostalgic themes of adolescence, Black Womanhood and communal joy. Jirah incorporates bold colors, textures, and her photography archive to create a sensory experience through her work. Jirah has exhibited work in several group exhibitions and one solo exhibition. These include Spoleto, Moja Arts Festival, Redux and at CCPL’s Saul Alexander Gallery. She is currently delving into live painting and working on a new body of work. You can find her full portfolio at www.ujorii.com. IG: @UJORII
