Announcing our FIRST community exhibition!

Postcards from the Pines Exhibition Summary:

Public Works Art Center is a new community art center in downtown Summerville, South Carolina. Located in the former Post Office (which later became the CPW building), Public Works Art Center is a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with and experience art. For our first community exhibition, we wish to pay homage to the origins of this building in a “postcard size” exhibition featuring works from all ages and mediums. Submissions should focus on the theme of community, home, togetherness, and/or Summerville. Submissions MUST be received by 8/1 in order to be included. The show will run from 8/10-9/25 and will be the debut show of our South Gallery.

Submission guidelines:

All artists must pay a $15 submission fee to be included in the show. Cash or checks are preferred to avoid card processing fees. If the submission fee poses a financial strain on you, please contact Public Works Art Center at 843-860-6049 to request coverage from a scholarship fund supplied by Dan Riley of Capital Service Group.

All artwork must be 5×7 inches. All mediums allowed – we welcome unique materials! All ages are welcome to submit their work.

Art should be ready to hang. Light framing is acceptable and encouraged, and we recognize that it will push the sizing just past 5×7. This is acceptable, but please do not increase the size with matting, etc.

Only one artwork submission per person, please.

Art must be dropped off during open hours to Public Works Art Center between 7/29 and 8/1.

Artists should not submit work to the gallery which is based on a photograph/artwork made by someone else, unless they have been cleared of any copyright issues. Many photographs online are copyrighted to the original photographer and should not be used as the basis for an artwork, especially if the artist is planning on producing prints of that work.

Artwork must be ready for display upon arrival. All work that is expected to hang on the wall must be framed and/or wired; no sawtooth hangers will be accepted. All work should be legibly signed by the artist on the back. Fiber hangings must be mounted on a rod.

Public Works Art Center reserves the right to reject any work. Work may be rejected for any reason including, but not limited to: the work is too fragile; the work is improperly prepared for exhibit; the work is damaged; the work is not delivered on time; the artist does not remit the appropriate fees in a timely manner; the work is objectively offensive and/or inappropriate for an “all ages” family show.

Art submitted to shows must be the artist’s original work or reproductions of their own work to which they hold the rights.

Artists are responsible for transporting the work to and from the gallery. Any art not picked up at Public Works Art Center after 120 days from the end of the show will become property of PWAC. Artists are responsible for contacting Public Works Art Center if other arrangements need to be made.

Please include a completed submission form when dropping off your work – click here to download.
